Kirsten Schötteldreier

Kirsten Schötteldreier has been drawn to singing from her early youth onwards. After a carreer as non classical singer she chose to study classical singing and directing at Folkwang Conservatorium in Essen (Germany). This allowed her, next to her training as a professional Operasinger, to absorb the work in other diciplines of theatre and dance, with e.g. famous choreographer Pina Bausch and director Kurt Horres, both teaching at the Folkwang at that time. This started her fascination for blending music with theatre, dance and visual art, over time resulting in many Musictheatreprojects of her own and in Cooperation with other directors.

After her study Kirsten started her career as a classical singer working internationally, taught by great singers such as Galina Vishnewskaya, Brigitte Fassbender and Hilde Zadek. In search of more than just the technical approach to the voice, she found a more holistic way of singing in her work with her voice coach and mentor Peter T. Harrison. The start of her practise of the ancient Shaolin arts with the internationally renowned Shaolin Wahnam institute contributed further to her own teaching-method, combining vocal and energy techniques with each other. Currently she works as a voicecoach, preparing main soloparts in international Operaproductions, giving voiceworkshops for singers, actors and conductors and giving casting advice for agencies and Operahouses.

Kirsten Schötteldreier worked as voice and performancecoach and prepared main solistic roles and complet Cast in Operahouses like : Wiener Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien , Operastudio Theater an der Wien, National Opera and Ballet Amsterdam, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera de Bastille, Opera Madrid, Liceu Barcelona, Royal Opera Copenhagen, Oper Frankfurt, Oper Leipzig, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Vlaamse Opera, Bayreuther Festspiele, Opernfestspiele München, Ruhrtriennale.

Conductors of these productions were : Hartmut Haenchen, Kirill Petrenko, Zubin Metha, Phillipe Jordan, Andris Nelsons, Simon Rattle, Teodor Currentzis, Dimitiri Jurowski, Thomas Guggeis o.a.

Next to her work as a coach Kirsten also initiates and cooperates in music projects and opera for theatres and site-specific locations and for performances, such as ”Grenzgebiete” & “CloseD” with choreografer Susanne Marx and the VR Opera ”Weltatem” with -Het Geluid-, which won 2 main prices at the Dutch Game Awards in 2017.
